Finding files in a recovery scan is only the start of deciding whether a card can be reused. You need verified copies and an understanding of why the loss occurred.

What to check first
Separate a one-time accidental deletion from recurring read errors or suspected counterfeit capacity. Recovery does not certify hardware reliability.
A practical recovery sequence
- Locate and preserve the evidence. Save recovered data to separate storage and verify every irreplaceable item before changing the card.
- Check the most relevant recovery source. Create a second independent copy of essential files. Keep the original card unchanged until the recovery review is complete.
- Keep a separate working copy. If the card showed hardware errors or unreliable capacity, replace it rather than returning it to important work. Only consider reuse of a healthy card after the data is secured.
Keep the recovery attempt reversible
A backup should be evaluated by what you can restore and use. Keep the original backup unchanged while testing a separate restored copy. Record the backup date, selected folders, skipped items, and any missing dependencies. This makes the result reproducible and helps distinguish a copying problem from an already damaged source. For essential data, maintain another independent copy after recovery so that verifying or reorganizing one destination does not put the only usable version at risk.
How to verify the result
Check full-resolution photos, complete videos, and project files, then document where both verified copies are stored.
Record which files you checked and which remain uncertain. Keep unverified candidates separate from files you have confirmed are usable; that distinction matters if someone else needs to continue the work.
The mistake to avoid
Do not format or test-write the card while it may still contain the only recoverable version of a missing file.
If files are still missing
For an actual deletion from a stable, accessible local device, Drecov’s data recovery resources provide another starting point. If you choose to evaluate its software, use the Drecov download, confirm support for your device and filesystem, and keep installation and recovered output off the affected storage. Recovery is not guaranteed. Software cannot substitute for missing encryption credentials, cloud permissions, or unreadable hardware.
