PowerPoint Recovered Slides Are Missing Pictures

A recovered presentation may contain slide text while pictures are blank. Some assets may have been linked from another folder, and some embedded data may be damaged.

What to check first

Determine whether the missing images were linked or embedded. The distinction decides whether you should search for external source files or another presentation version.

A practical recovery sequence

1. Locate and preserve the evidence. Keep the recovered deck unchanged and inspect a copy. Identify which slides and image types are affected instead of replacing every picture at once.
2. Check the most relevant recovery source. Look for the original asset folder, collaborator copies, exported PDFs, and earlier decks. Use complete source images when rebuilding slides rather than low-resolution previews.
3. Keep a separate working copy. Relink or replace assets in the working copy, then save a new deck. Keep any exported PDF as a visual reference, not as proof that editable content survived.

Keep the recovery attempt reversible

Preserve the current candidate before trying a repair, conversion, or version restore. Run the presentation from beginning to end and check crops, transparency, animations, and image quality at full size.

Do not delete the asset folder after the slides appear correct on one computer; linked images may fail on another machine.
